Calorie Brands: Rethinking Junk Food Packaging

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to get in shape for the summer, you can’t miss out on Calorie Brands. This innovative project, spearheaded by designers Alessia Mordini and Rodrigo Domínguez, is challenging traditional snack packaging by putting calorie counts front and center.

What is Calorie Brands?

Calorie Brands is a provocative design initiative where common junk food products are rebranded with their calorie content boldly displayed. The concept, which emerged as a social commentary, was developed during a design internship at an advertising agency in London for the Miami School in Madrid.

Alessia Mordini explains, “We wanted to tackle a common issue—nutrition. Usually, calorie information is hidden in small print on the back of packaging. We believed that any brand could benefit from placing calorie counts in a more prominent position. And the visual identity of the products remains intact.”

Why is This Approach Bold?

This approach might seem daring as a market strategy. Just imagine seeing snacks with calorie counts in bold, cubital letters on the shelves! It’s certainly a unique way to make consumers more aware of what they’re eating.

Despite this bold move, would you be willing to give up your favorite snacks? Think about it:
