European Accessibility Act 2025

Starting June 28, 2025, the European Accessibility Act (EAA) becomes mandatory across all EU member states. Directive 2019/882 sets clear requirements for accessible digital products and services, aiming to ensure digital inclusivity for people with disabilities. Businesses, public entities, and providers must comply to avoid penalties and enhance user experience.

The EAA affects multiple sectors: e-commerce, electronic devices (smartphones, terminals), online banking, e-books, transportation, and more. The regulation requires these products and services to be compatible with assistive technologies, following guidelines such as WCAG 2.1 for web accessibility. Compliance involves both technical and design enhancements.

Besides legal compliance, improving digital accessibility expands audience reach, boosts SEO rankings, and strengthens brand reputation. For users with disabilities, ensuring equal access means greater participation and autonomy. Companies investing in accessibility stay ahead of the market and mitigate legal risks.

To comply, it’s recommended to:

  • Conduct a thorough digital accessibility audit
  • Update websites and apps according to WCAG 2.1 guidelines
  • Integrate testing with real assistive technologies
  • Train internal teams on best practices
  • Collaborate with specialized consultants

The EAA is a key step toward a more inclusive web. For more information, consult the official European Commission website or reach out to specialized digital accessibility consultants.
